The Source of Evil

„And from the source of pride flow also anger and desire, down to the utmost of their lowliness.”From Shemonah Kevatzim, V:25

Pride places a person at the center of reality, and when he is preoccupied only with himself, every small injury to him turns into anger, and every lack or want and desire demands immediate fulfillment. This is a movement of the soul in which the "I" grows ever more inflated, and the desires become demanding and draw a person into inner lowliness. The source of this pride is when there is no God above us. When people live in the world without a higher power above them (regardless of sector, but a matter of whether there is a God in their hearts). The more this pattern takes root, the more it turns from a trait into a nature. Anger becomes a foundation that generates venom in the soul, life loses its value, everything fades, and hope weakens because a person sees only himself and therefore sees only the world's deficiencies. Without connection to a higher source there is no faith in the good, and when faith in the good erodes, so too the will to aspire toward it slowly dissolves. How does one rise up from there? And how does the opposite movement of will, holiness and hope open up? We will continue tomorrow.
