The River of Creativity
„As long as a person is compelled to wait for the times when the spirit of creativity will descend upon him, and then he will innovate, contemplate, meditate, and sing, this is a sign that the illumination of his soul has not appeared upon him.”From Shemonah Kevatzim VII, 221
How easy it is to believe that inspiration is a rare guest, a fleeting moment that cannot be summoned at the heart's will. Rav Kook inverts the thought: the soul pulses with constant song, a river of creativity flowing without cease. If I am waiting for the muse, I have probably not yet tuned in to the high frequency on which my soul sings. The task is not to grasp fragments of a moment but to raise one's head, to listen, and to make room for the sweet stream that already wells forth. True creativity begins when we stop waiting and start to hear.
