To Believe Alongside Action

„We think that by our wisdom and the shrewdness of the shrewd among us we have come this far... and we forget that were it not for the hand of the Lord, Master of wars, who sows righteousness and brings forth salvation, none of our works would accomplish anything.”From Iggeret HaPurim

On the eve of Purim, it is important that we remember the miracle. It is important that we remember that the people of Israel, throughout all the generations, alongside human effort merited divine accompaniment and providence. When we were at the Sea of Reeds, between the Egyptians and the stormy sea, the Holy One split the sea for us. In the days of Esther and Mordechai, when we were under a decree of annihilation with the consent of all the leaders of the free world - the Holy One overturned the decree. And so too in our own generations. Human efforts from below and the providence of the Holy One save us from the hand of evil. And it is fitting that this consciousness of hope be before us at all times.
