The Destruction of Sin
„Iniquity prevents the revelation of wisdom, because it damages the will, and the essential appearance of wisdom is hidden in the depths of the will.”From Shemonah Kevatzim I:378
When we sin, we do something contrary to our reality. The intent is not that we do something that is unpleasant to us, but that in the very act we harm our essence. For example, a person who eats a great deal of sweet food harms his body. A person who is angry and bitter harms his soul as well. A violent person harms himself and his surroundings. And so too in spirituality. And this harm causes weakness, a lack of will, and a never-ending cycle that severs us from ourselves and from our surroundings. One transgression leads to another.
