The Soul of the Creator

„One whose soul is a poetic soul must know his own nature, his particular longings and desires, the movement of his spirit, and the special spiritual nourishment he requires to sustain his inner vitality – as vital to him as the air he breathes.”From Orot HaKodesh III, p. 215

A person who has been given the gift of creativity must come to know himself and his own traits in order to develop his powers. He must grow in the very things at which he is good – it is no accident that he received this wondrous gift from the Holy One. The focus specifically on the poetic soul stems from the fact that, in a world that demands results, such people are so often trampled. Rav Kook returns again and again to emphasize that we must use the powers the Holy One has given us and rejoice in them.
