A Generation of Love
„The present generation is not a lowly generation, but a very high and exalted one. It is not fit to walk in the low path of habit, but to recognize and to know.”From Rishon LeYafo, 130
Many of us are liable to look at rebellious youth with a dismissive gaze, and at obedient youth with an embracing and loving gaze. Rav Kook looked deeper. Precisely the unwillingness to be content with habit may testify to a higher soul, one that seeks to understand, to know, and to live out of inner truth. Therefore heresy, criticism, and rebellion are at times a cry and an outcry of a desire to know. The role of the adult in relation to the adolescent is not to break the generation and force it to behave as he does, but to give it knowledge, alongside love and containment. To provide an explanation for what our generation, and perhaps we, received as self-evident, and to understand the greatness of a generation that seeks to delve deeply into things rather than accept them in the same form. For that is how one connects out of love.
