A Time of Repair
„Precisely out of true, pure repentance one must return to the world and to life, and through this one restores holiness to its place and crowns the Divine Presence in the world.”From Orot HaTeshuvah 14:30
The mortal blow we received on Simchat Torah underscored the need for all of us to repent. To repair. Repair is sometimes perceived as a painful, invasive process that awakens dormant cells and causes distress to rise up and take over. The Rav places the emphasis, in repair and repentance, upon returning to life. When we understand that we have erred, we begin a journey toward life. A journey of return to light and to good. The pains we endure in repair are hard and terrible, but they are part of healing — part of the understanding that for too long we were dormant and deep in sin, and now, at the time of repair, we are drawing ever closer to life, and to a better world.
