A Time for Healing

„And he needs an awesome restraint upon all his movements, and a fearsome limitation upon all the ways of his life.”From LeNevuchei HaDor, 29

A few days ago I asked you to pray for my son's recovery. Thank God, all is well. He broke his leg, underwent surgery, and will heal, with God's help. In a single moment, all the plans we had were exchanged for a week in the hospital. What seemed urgent a moment before suddenly lost its importance. Rav Kook describes a person who has broken his limbs. He longs to return at once to his good days, to walk freely and live as he lived before. But precisely this desire to return quickly may delay his recovery. The immobilization that restricts him now is also what will allow him to walk again in the future. There are times when life demands movement of us, and times when it demands that we consent to stop. To accept the limit, to set aside our plans, and to be fully present where we are needed. We must learn to be attentive – that is the path to healing and to life.
