Repair
„There is no idle thought in the world at all; there is nothing that has no place.”From Shemonah Kevatzim V, 275
How quickly we disqualify. An idea that does not sound right to us, an opinion that offends us, a person who thinks differently from us. Rav Kook proposes to look deeper. Not every thought is correct, but when we look at the root of things, we discover that there is a kernel of truth, and a life-force, in every thought. At times thoughts become distorted, at times powers emerge in a negative way. But their root is good and right. The wise person is the one who knows how to uncover the point of truth from which every thought grew, to take from it the good, and to set aside what became corrupted. Behind anger, envy, arrogance, and heresy there sometimes hides a genuine request for life. For meaning. For truth. For love. When we learn to see the root, we learn to repair, instead of only to judge.
