The Power of Life
„A blind man does not beget a blind man, nor an amputee an amputee, and whatever is joined to life — there is assurance that a perfected and whole power will emerge from it.”From LeNevuchei HaDor 23
In this beautiful sentence the Rav sheds new light on the power of life. We may be gravely harmed, even to the point of losing a limb. But as long as the loss does not injure our life and our soul, the immense power of life allows continuity and renewed growth. Indeed, the world has not yet found a way to regrow limbs, but nature does allow a person missing a hand or a leg to bring whole life into the world, without this lack! And nature gave us an immense gift: the sharpening of our powers in the hour of lack. "And there are cases in which even his lack returns to him through the strengthening of the power of life." That is to say, since we are impaired in a certain place, we have added strength in other places.
