Rav Kook's Sayings / Parashat Bamidbar

„The desirous awakening of the nation as a whole, to return to its land, to its essence, to its spirit and to its character — truly there is a light of repentance in it.”From Orot HaTeshuvah 17:2

In this week's parashah Moshe, in his great speech, sums up the years of the wilderness. Among other things, he speaks of the great missed opportunity, in which a journey of a few days became a journey of forty years. Years in which the enslaved children of Israel became a people. In Moshe's words there is the essence of repentance, which is a deep repair of errors and sins and a return to the correct path. The sin of the spies wrecked the plans, and the people asked to return to Egypt — and were punished. And when the will was refined, the people merited and entered their land. We must remember that sometimes processes take time. Time that is required by reality and by the ability to advance.
