In Orot HaMilchamah, Rav Kook sets forth his overarching vision, which sees in everything that happens in the world a part of a comprehensive trend of the Holy One's governance of the world. Even the bad things — such as wars and personal and national difficulties — Rav Kook sees as part of that same trend. This is very hard to see with eyes of flesh and blood, yet very important for understanding, perception, and even hope. When we are pressured and receive a blow and a hardship, as a nation and as individuals, there is a special opportunity for us to shine forth the light unique to us — to recognize it, to believe in it, and to illuminate through it.
