Mishpetei HaRav Kook / Breaking and Repair

In heavenly life, in the upper worlds, there is no need for shattering in order to repair. There is no need for retreat in order to advance, nor for darkness in order to understand and see the light. But in our own lives, we are bound to it. The Rav explains that it is just like a person who must invest, take risks, and spend from his money in order to profit. Therefore, when we experience a shattering, we must extract from it — understand its meaning, and understand the manner of repair that will become possible precisely from within it, on the way to a great light.
