Mishpetei HaRav Kook / Balance
„Three forces are now wrestling within our camp... the holy, the nation, and humanity — these are the three principal demands from which all of life... is composed... And we cannot find any fixed form of human life that is not composed of all three.”From Orot HaTechiyah 18
Rav Kook was no compromiser, and the place of holiness for him was something beyond price. In his outlook and his wisdom he knew that the way to reach a people dwelling in its land — and, in general, the service of God — requires the will of a people, a place for the Land, and a true connection to holiness. It is important that we remember there is an existential need for these three sides — for holiness, for nationhood, and for liberalism — in order to sustain a world. This insight obligates us all. And if we have grown accustomed to ignoring other sides of the triangle of Israeli life, reality calls upon us to pay attention to all three.
