Mishpetei HaRav Kook / Humility

„The more a person grasps the world and life, their spiritual and material perfection, the many needs of the collective and of the individual, the more he grasps the shortness of his own hand.”From Middot HaRe'iyah, Anavah

The more we see the world and ourselves in a truer light, the more humble we become. The humble person recognizes his powers and his nothingness before the Infinite, his abilities and the endless might of the world around him — and thereby knowledge and proportion help him grasp his proper place. The trait of humility helps us advance toward what we can and truly ought to be. It disconnects us from the need to perform outwardly and to compete with the other, and helps us act out of truth.
