Bodily Repentance

„Sometimes a spiritual deficiency cannot be filled by any labor and any repentance...”From Shemonah Kevatzim I, 45

We are in the days of Elul, the month of mercy and forgiveness, a month in which we prepare for the Days of Awe and the festivals that bring with them a new year. Some of us feel a powerful desire to mend, to advance spiritually, and at times we do not know how. The Rav explains that our spiritual need to advance, alongside goals of repair in deeds and the resolve to be better, also touches our body. To go out and breathe, to run, to care for the body and to do repentance in whatever we need to mend in the most amazing machine in the world, and thus to advance further in spirit.
