„"...What consolation is, this we must learn. We must rise above the lowliness of a comfort of folly, and all the more so above the mockery-consolation of 'what can be done,' and reach that state of soul from which we can shower down a dew of true comfort, the comfort of the Almighty..." (Ma'amarei HaRe'iyah 276)”
Where there is no vision, there is despair. And against despair we need hope and consolation. Consolation is not saying things with our lips alone, without faith, but truly believing in the eternity of Israel and in our ability to rise from the hard places in which we find ourselves. The Rav does not ignore the evil, but in this essay he speaks of the importance of the good, of highlighting the good. He also speaks of the eternity of Israel — of a faith flowing from the divine promise that our people has an eternal role in the world. We see the present difficulties, and we recognize the prophecies of the future.
