„...of their kinds in the general public and even in the religious public, I have chosen to post the words that Rav Kook wrote nearly a hundred years ago... ***”
The sexual drive is the drive that sustains the world, and consequently, since this is so, this drive can bring us to very high and very low places. Like every great thing, it is great and strong toward the positive direction, the continuity of the world, and toward the negative direction, the destruction of morality in the world.
In our world there are those who are born with a same-sex orientation. For them the struggle is immense and great, but this difficult struggle is not a reason to permit lying with a male.
Behind the prohibition stands an entire world, of a moral outlook, of the sustaining of the world, and of morality.
Therefore, there is no call, God forbid, to take revenge on those who have such an orientation, and it is not right that there be any evil feeling toward these people on the one hand. But on the other hand, a world that desires life cannot accept and agree to this orientation, which destroys it.
In these words Rav Kook explains that we must guard ourselves from this orientation and from the self-righteousness of the "modern" world toward it.
"Sanctify yourself in what is permitted to you": in what we are permitted, we may go up to the limit. The Torah permits a person to do many things with his wife, as is detailed in the Rambam and the Shulchan Aruch. But in what we may not, we must guard ourselves as much as possible, for our own sake and for the sake of the entire world.
"And the word of our God shall stand forever," and it is always relevant. Even today.
Shabbat Shalom.
