„Every sin flows from a defect in the capacity of a person's soul. The soul has weakened, and it cannot stand against the inclination to evil within it. This lack of capacity, when it comes into actuality, weakens the power of the will for good, and the weakening of the will brings about a weakening of knowledge.”From Orot HaTeshuvah 9, 9
The survival instinct of the human soul brings about a reality of "one transgression drags another." The sin committed in a moment of weakness creates a helplessness that leads to a lack of motivation; sometimes as a result the person tries to perpetuate their weakness and turn it into an ideology. Emerging from this cycle requires the ability to breathe and to stop our automatic response as human beings. It is like escaping a whirlpool: flow to the bottom, swim beneath the surface, look for a place that is not stormy to emerge, and begin there anew. Then the distinction between evil and good will come.
