„Everything engraved in nature needs no hearing and no learning. The b…”

„Everything engraved in nature needs no hearing and no learning. The bee builds the cells of its hive with the most perfect numerical precision, without hearing lessons in geometry, because so it is engraved in its nature. And in the spiritual world, the supernal spiritual beings need no hearing before their works, because their holiness is natural to them. Only human beings, who are liable to be confused by the tumults of false science, require exertion to return to their pure natural soul... and for this reason we placed 'we will do' before 'we will hear.'”From Ma'amarei HaRe'iyah 171

When something is natural to us, it is done without study, as part of our being — just like an artist or an animal fulfilling its role and talent. And this is the secret of the angels and the secret of the receiving of the Torah — "we will do and we will hear" — not as a doing devoid of understanding, but as a full, true, and natural connection. The defilement of the world, and even the desire to advance it, cause a confusion of roles and a failure to understand the natural place of the Torah in our lives. For this the Sabbaths and festivals come and remind us of what is essential. Shabbat Shalom and a happy Shavuot to all!
