„The pure righteous do not complain about wickedness but add righteous…”
„The pure righteous do not complain about wickedness but add righteousness; they do not complain about heresy but add faith; they do not complain about ignorance but add wisdom.”From Shemonah Kevatzim II, 99
There is a teaching that is not a local teaching in Rav Kook's thought but a leading line. The pure righteous, and those who aspire to be such, try to add to the world and not to detract from it. In the long run, the action of these people builds a mended and better world. The automatic response of all of us, which is at times necessary, at times destroys and breaks. But the line that Rav Kook builds here, in the building of a world, charts a different path of building and protest: to add light against the darkness. To understand that the way to overcome darkness passes also through our increasing light and good. According to Rav Kook too there are times when one must smash and break. But alongside these times, there are also times and cases in which one must simply increase the light. Happy Hanukkah!
