„Humility is joined with spiritual perfection. For the more a person grasps the world and life, their spiritual and material perfection, the many needs of the collective and of the individual, then he grasps the shortness of his own reach, the blindness of his own apprehension, the smallness of his will's power to do good. And he becomes lowly in spirit, and he constantly rises and is elevated through his great desire to draw ever nearer to the absolute good.”From Middot HaRe'iyah, Humility
The more we see the world and ourselves in a truer light, the more humble we are. The humble person recognizes his powers and his nothingness—his abilities and the never-ending intensity of the world around him—and consequently the knowledge and the proportions help him to grasp the correct place.
The trait of humility helps us to advance toward what we can and truly should be. It disconnects us from the need to do for external show, and helps us to do from within.
