Mishpetei HaRav Kook / Parashat Lech Lecha
„The aspiration was revealed to establish a great human community that would keep the way of the Lord to do righteousness and justice... The fulfillment of this aspiration requires specifically that this community possess a political and social polity and a throne of national sovereignty.”From LeMahalach HaIde'ot II
In the portion of 'Lech Lecha' begins the founding of the nation of Israel. The beginning of a people that discovers that faith is not merely a hidden idea in the hearts of solitary ascetics and recluses, but a light suited to all domains of life: society, economy, family, morality, statehood. A people that lives on its land and brings righteousness and justice, that does not seclude itself spiritually but is connected to reality. The divine vision was not intended for a few lofty souls, but for the whole world, and this is the root of the difference between the pagan nations and Judaism, and later between Judaism and Christianity and Islam. A journey that began with Abraham our father and continues to our own day.
