„Why should I distress my soul, which desires freedom, when it feels i…”

„Why should I distress my soul, which desires freedom, when it feels itself free? Why should I place upon its feet the shackles of prisoners of poverty? Let it sail in the open expanses, let it paint, let it rise up according to the measure of its aspiration, let it ascend higher and higher. And if I feel that it is my iniquities that bind it with cords, I will immediately bring to it the strength of repentance - the supernal repentance, the repentance that is near, in my mouth and in my heart, to perform. And the thought of repentance in the mystery of one's thought immediately illuminates all its darkness, and gives it the strength of salvation.”From Shemonah Kevatzim, VIII, 215

Our soul aspires to freedom, it aspires to discover worlds, to ask, to know how to dare.

Rav Kook says that we must beware of denying freedom to the soul.

And what binds our soul? The feeling of sin, the feeling that we were in a negative place that cannot be mended. Against these shackles we must place the strength of repentance. To know that everything has a remedy in the world. From every low place one can rise and ascend to the summit. One can return.

When we succeed in being truly connected to the Holy One, we will merit true freedom.
