A Corrupt World

„It is a good sign for a person and for a nation when their moral sense is developing and growing; the well-developed sense recognizes every moral flaw in itself, and recoils from it.”From Shemonah Kevatzim I, 139

One of the signs of the generation of redemption is the fact that ills can no longer be swept under the rug. Everything is revealed, everything is seen, and the picture that unfolds before our eyes may be ugly and hard. We all feel this as more and more affairs of corruption are exposed. Rav Kook, in his characteristic way, sees in this an enormous advance: despite the immense difficulty, these harsh revelations bring the entire generation toward repair, toward a higher place. True, this repair is often done out of fear and dread of what people will say, yet along with it there is built up among the masses the understanding that there is uprightness, that there is justice, that there is righteousness. The revulsion we feel before the evil that is exposed can lift us and all of reality to a higher place, to a better reality.
