The Month of Marcheshvan
„When the soul is illuminated, even skies wrapped in fog give forth a pleasant light.”From Meged Yerachim, Marcheshvan
It is the month of Marcheshvan, and this is one of Rav Kook's well-known sayings. A saying especially fitting for the days in which we now find ourselves: darkness fills most of the day, the day grows shorter, and at times our mood too shifts into a wintry mode. Rav Kook explains that in the end it is we, by our conduct, who determine how our day will look. When we look upon our day with an illuminating gaze, it will shine. When the gaze is gloomy, it will be gloomy. We do this not for the sake of others, but first of all for our own sake. A positive outlook on reality benefits first of all our own life. And when we illuminate, the world around us also gains.
