After the Holidays
„When a person accomplishes something of perfection, whether in thought or in deed, he should rejoice in his portion and not then chase after something else, for the whole world folds up before him precisely in that particular detail.”From Musar Avicha II, 2
What an upheaval our people has undergone, days of 'rejoice with trembling.' On top of everything came the season of 'after the holidays.' All the postponements we deferred, all the things we elegantly put off, now stand and await their turn. It is precisely in these moments of overload, when everything waits in piles, that we may surrender to mediocrity, to a state in which we try to get everything done while the only goal is to finish. To move one more task along. To advance. Rav Kook explains that when we do a single task with wholeness, when we devote time and importance to a single thought, we fold beneath it whole worlds, and thereby advance in an astonishing way. 'The whole world folds up before him precisely in that particular detail.' A good winter and peace of mind!
