Rosh Hashanah
„On Rosh Hashanah I do not confess; rather I am occupied that the Lord illuminate my light, and that I recognize how to return properly.”From Yerach HaEitanim 115
On Rosh Hashanah there is no confession. On this day we are not occupied with detailing sins, but with opening the heart to receive a new light from the Holy One, blessed be He. Rav Kook explains that this light grants us the ability to understand ourselves better, and thereby to return in truth. These are days of beginning. Days in which we lift our gaze and seek to be charged with strength, so that our return will be more complete. Rosh Hashanah grants us the inspiration and the power, and Yom Kippur completes the process with confession and atonement.
