„Repentance does not come to embitter life but to make it pleasant.”
„Repentance does not come to embitter life but to make it pleasant.”From Orot HaTeshuvah 16:6
With the arrival of the month of Elul and the beginning of the days of repentance and repair for each of us, it is worth remembering that repentance, repair, and improvement are meant to make life pleasant and not to spoil or embitter it. For years the prevailing conception held that Elul is a time of trembling and fear. One of the special things Rav Kook did was to take the concept of repentance and make it fitting for all, for every person and at every time. Repentance is improvement. Repentance is meant to better our lives. To make them more correct and precise. Each of us needs repentance. To seek the places where he can and must be better. This conception can give all of us a better and more serene life. And bring about many more repairs in the world.
