The Month of Elul

„Reality does not have wings as swift as those of the vision.”From Orot HaTechiyah 3

The vision soars easily, carries us to distant places, and paints a whole and impressive picture on paper. But reality is heavy and slow, advancing step by step, with pitfalls, dirty hands, and hard work. Rav Kook teaches us not to despair over the gap, for this is the nature of things. It is precisely in the generation of revival, the generation returning to its land and building it, the generation realizing the vision of the prophets, that we must remember that the great vision is hidden within the small deeds, and that it is precisely perseverance, and not immediate perfection, that brings the revival. Every small action, every partial advance, is part of the vision coming to fruition. If in the past there were those who trembled at the sound of the word Elul, today we are called not only to trembling but also to deeds. A good month!
