Divine Morality

„When morality is instilled in the hearts of people without its divine source, it will diminish and wither.”From Shemonah Kevatzim, II 133

Judaism brought morality to the world. Long ago, when the whole world was pagan, faith in a supreme power greater than ourselves came and set boundaries for the world. The greatest persecutors of the Jews fought against the Jews and against Judaism because of morality, for they understood the depth of the connection between the people of God and the morality that descended to the world. Rav Kook explains that there is no way to separate morality from its divine source; when one separates them, morality is eroded and distorted. And thus one can see supreme moral principles that, without their divine source, become disasters and the destruction of the world.
