„is presented as a physician —”
"the Healer of all your illnesses," and this healing is effective against sin. In contrast, general repentance builds the connection of a person with his God; the connection is not short-term, for the illness/sin — the connection is a bond of life: "as one whom his mother comforts, so will I comfort you." This building is slower, but immeasurably deeper and far more stable.
This parallels sudden repentance and gradual repentance — sudden repentance is not built; it appears like lightning in a single moment and gives a wondrous light, but it alone does not provide a solution for a person's soul. Upon sudden repentance the stature of gradual repentance must be built in order to touch supreme repentance — exactly as upon natural repentance the stature of the repentance of faith must be built in order to touch intellectual repentance.
In chapters 1–3 Rav Kook built a complete edifice of repentance, strung together between its chapters. From the Rav's words emerges the importance of repentance as part of the Divine process: the receiving of the lights from the Holy One, blessed be He, and a person's connection to these lights, do not stem from private emotions but from an inner, natural, and healthy connection of a person to his Creator. The recognition of these lights begins with a person's recognition of himself, with the study of Torah, and with the connection of the particulars to the generalities — which means the connection of the particular nature and the Divine Torah to faith and a strong recognition of His blessed existence.
Have a pleasant rest of the day, everyone.
