To Believe and to Prevail
„When the mighty faith in the strength of the essential "I" diminishes... then one walks in gloom... and when one returns in a higher repentance... then his spirit revives and shines.”From Shemonah Kevatzim VII, 185
A year into a war, and especially for those of us who are experiencing the war, despair is liable to strike. This is a time in which we must understand the immense importance of the spirit, for victory. It was Beni Marshak of blessed memory who, at the battle of San Simon, a moment before defeat, passed among the soldiers and said to them a sentence he had learned from the Red Army: "When it is cold and wet and rain is falling on you, it is also cold and wet for the enemy and rain is falling on him too." Our faith in the ability to prevail, the understanding that it is harder and colder for the enemy, can be an essential part of our victory in war. And the home front has a critical role in internalizing these insights.
