The Level That Follows Yom Kippur
„Therefore there return days of holy joy, of gladness of soul, to raise up the good will and the pure vigor of life. Then the repentance will be complete.”From Olat Re'iyah II, 367
On Yom Kippur we resembled angels, but in fact we are not angels. We are human beings. Rav Kook explains in Olat Re'iyah that the fact that Sukkot comes after Yom Kippur is part of our repentance, part of the repair. We return to our strength as human beings, to nature, and from within it we continue and repair. And thus the repentance is complete. Not a repentance that only breaks, but a repentance that builds within us further levels. To atone, to repair, and to build.
