Say to Our Troubles, Enough!

„From various sides repentance will come and be revealed. One particular one of these sides will be the sorrow over the affront with which the great spirit was affronted.”From Shemonah Kevatzim I, 665

There are times when repentance bursts forth. It arrives under immense pressure and in a cry of "how long!" This morning, upon hearing the news of the murder of six of the captives in Gaza and of three murdered on Mount Hebron by the oppressor who dwells at our side, I think these words and the affront within them are precise. There are times when the affront is spiritual, and there are times when the affront is political or general. And here everything is connected. A moment before Rosh Chodesh Elul, repentance must be a demand and a cry to the Holy One to say to our troubles, enough! To defeat the oppressor through our soldiers, and to succeed in bringing, God willing, and through our deeds and our efforts, repentance and healing to our world.
