„Humility is bound up with spiritual perfection, for the more a person…”
„Humility is bound up with spiritual perfection, for the more a person attains an understanding of the world and of life, of their spiritual and material refinement, of the many needs of the collective and of the individual, then he attains an awareness of the shortness of his own reach, of the blindness of his perception, of the smallness of his power of will to do good; and he becomes lowly in spirit, and he is always ascending by virtue of his great desire to draw ever nearer to the absolute good.”From Shemonah Kevatzim, I, 642
The more we know, the more we ought to be filled with humility. A person who recognizes the greatness of the world, and the power of humankind, of nature, of all of humanity, is a person who will know how tiny and small he is compared with the immense world in which he finds himself.
The more we delve into the mystery of life, the more we will understand that, after all, we are a single grain within a world full and rich beyond compare.
This need not cause us fear or depression; on the contrary. From a place of humility and knowledge of our own place, we will try to connect to a higher place, to a greater good.
Humility does not mean nothingness, but immense power. An understanding that we are part of a mighty machine, that we have a role, but that everything must be kept in proportion.
