Rosh Chodesh Tammuz

„A life without an ideal rooted in its depths is worse than the life of a beast.”From Middot HaRe'iyah, Emunah (Faith)

In his book "Human, All Too Human," Nietzsche wrote: "He who has a 'why' to live for can bear almost any 'how.'" And by the reverse of his words, one who has no 'why' to live for can bear almost no 'how' at all. Ideals are the 'why' of our lives, and they are what set us apart from the animals, who "drift" through their lives without challenge, ideal, or purpose. In the month in which the destruction began, we must learn and strengthen ourselves in building anew, whose foundation lies in reconstructing our ideals and setting goals afresh.
