„Every sin brings a diminishment of understanding, because of an inner…”
„Every sin brings a diminishment of understanding, because of an inner fear of gazing into the freedom of clear thought. And repentance is what opens wide the gates of understanding.”From Shemonah Kevatzim, I, 742
When a person sins, he diminishes for himself the possibility of choice. Choosing sin causes a person to create a dependency on something negative, and the more he is bound to the world of sin, the smaller his freedom of choice becomes.
The person who repents of sin succeeds in detaching from the dependency on evil; by choosing the good he grants himself freedom, and from now on his focus is on growth. No longer wallowing in sin and evil, but on new growth and building.
