„Weakness and fatigue are a gateway to all the evil traits. They arouse sadness, and sadness brings anger and pride, envy and enmity, and all the lowest inclinations.”From Shemonah Kevatzim, V, 167

Weakness and fatigue are a gateway to evil traits, and to evil things.

This applies to traits, to inner sensations, and to outward deeds.

A tired body is a body that finds it hard to do things with delight. A tired soul is a soul that finds it hard to break through its boundaries.

Further in the passage the Rav explains that this applies both to each and every one of us and to the entire nation.

Just as good sleep is a guarantee of renewed strength, and lack of sleep is a recipe for irritability, so too regarding the body and the private and general soul.

Let us increase strength, and through this we will receive new strength and will succeed.
