„Counsel, prayer, and resolve must be gathered to fight against the we…”
„Counsel, prayer, and resolve must be gathered to fight against the weakness of the will... At the outset it is fitting to compromise the demands, and consequently the force of the temptation will weaken, and the strengthening of the will toward the good will advance and prevail.”From Shemonah Kevatzim VI, 92
How does one fight against a lack of will? First of all, we do not define it as a lack, but as a weakness. The will is tired, it has not disappeared. Every person can awaken the will within himself, restore the will, since it is with us all the time. We need only to find the end of the thread that allows us to reach it. What is the end of the thread? At times the weakness of the will comes precisely because we are perfectionists, demanding of ourselves to reach heights that are too great for us, that are far from us. Precisely when we learn to let go, to stop, and to compromise, we can achieve much more. The will comes when we allow it to arrive, gently.
