The Pain of Talent

„Because he has the talent to comprehend with greater depth, they do not let his mind rest in this, so that he will labor and bring forth pearls.”From Rishon LeYafo, 48

Sometimes a person wants to serve God in simplicity. Without delving too deeply, without bearing upon himself great thoughts about life. But there are souls to whom such rest is not granted, because they possess a talent to see more deeply, and to bring forth from their labor pearls that can illuminate for others as well. This lack of rest can be distressing, but within it lies a secret of the sufferings of love. The Holy One asks of us to reveal the light within us, even when we wish to invest less. In the passage Rav Kook speaks of 'the service of Heaven' and the spiritual world, but it seems to me, in my humble opinion, that this is true across all the expanses of life.
