Between Slavery and Freedom
„The slave whose soul is a slavish soul - his life is lowly but not bitter. The slavish soul cannot feel the suffering in the lowliness of slavery, for this lowliness suits his nature and character, and at times he may even be full of contentment with it, and therefore proclaim: I will not go free.”From Bein Avdut leCherut
The difference between the slave and the free person is that the slave does not feel the bitterness of his slavery. It gradually becomes part of his new identity. And as long as it has not become such, freedom still exists within him. When we desire, we are free. The point of will is a point that lifts us to a human level - a life-engine that allows us to define goals and strategy and to advance.
