„Parashat Ki Tisa: "Sometimes, when there is a need to set aside words…”
„Parashat Ki Tisa: "Sometimes, when there is a need to set aside words of Torah, and there is no one in the generation who can show the way, sometimes... the matter comes about through an outburst." (Arpilei Tohar, 30)”
In this week's portion Moses our teacher shatters the tablets. The external break comes after a deep internal break in the people and the leadership. Rav Kook explains that sometimes one must shake things up to such a degree of the breaking of vessels - a hard shattering and an immense loss, but one that will prevent a greater calamity and break. The nature of the world does not tolerate cutting corners, and the way of nature is to settle accounts with errors that are not repaired. The purpose of the shattering was repair - a break that would cause an upheaval, which would bring repair in its wake.
