Between Yom Kippur and Sukkot
„Sometimes, through exerting oneself to be attached to supernal spirituality, all the powers of spiritual life are elevated on high... and afterward, when the supernal spiritual contemplation ends, and the power of life returns to its routine, the soul finds the body broken in the corruptions of its traits, and a great and very dangerous inner war begins.”From Orot HaTeshuvah 14:2
We have passed through the Days of Awe, and at their peak Yom Kippur, which was without food and drink and mostly in prayer. Now, we must bring into our awareness that these heights we reached are not a permanent place, and for most of us a fall is liable to come. Like in cartoons, one looks down and sees that we have long been off the ground, and then crashes. The path of daily work, in the labor of the whole year, is different from momentary elevation. It is daily work on what needs repair — work as human beings, and not as angels.
