To Be Better

„When the desire to be good to all grows strong, then a person knows that an illumination from the supernal world has come to him.”From Shemonah Kevatzim 8:61

In Psalm 15, King David asks the Holy One, blessed be He, "Who shall dwell in Your tent" — that is, what is the way to be closest to the Holy One, blessed be He. The answer is not one who has completed the entire Talmud thousands of times, one who never left the synagogue, or one who wore thousands of tzitziot at once. The answer is — one who was good. And this is the image we must place before our eyes in prayers and in private and general repentance: to be better people. To want to be better.
