Rav Kook's Sayings / The Honor of the Rabbinate
„Let the rabbis not think that they are only the property of some particular circle, of some particular party. The rabbis must know that the spiritual revival of the nation is given into their hands, and they are obligated to fulfill their duty faithfully.”From Article 'Kvod HaRabbanut' ('The Honor of the Rabbinate')
In days when the spirits are stormy, in the days of the Three Weeks (Bein HaMetzarim), and at all times — it is fitting that we mention and remember the role of the Torah and of its leaders: unity and peace. When the Torah enters political angles connected to appointments and honor, we all suffer. Rabbis must express themselves on the everyday issues, and so too did Rav Kook. But not to turn themselves into political figures and thereby sin against the essence of their role.
