Mishpetei HaRav Kook / Excessive Fear

„At times, from the greatness of the moral demand, an excessive fear concentrates itself which does not allow one to fulfill any obligation at all, and a person needs counsel on how to escape this surplus fear, so that he can find within himself his powers and talents ready for the fulfillment of the obligations to God and to man.”From Shemonah Kevatzim IV, 106

"Excessive fear" can paralyze us completely. It can cause us, out of an excess of desire to be precise, to lose the vitality that enables us to advance. We must distance ourselves from what paralyzes us — which is what will enable us to develop and to flourish.
