Mishpetei HaRav Kook / The Power Is in Our Hands

„A person acquires no virtue except from within himself, from his own essential inner substance, and not from what comes to him from outside — for chance occurrences do not give birth to true happiness.”From Chadarav 24

At times we seek external validations for who we are. We long for a social nod for the things we wish to change or to do — agreement and a pat on the shoulder that will help us bring our desires to fruition. Rav Kook reminds us that, alongside this natural desire, we must remember that the matter depends on us. We are the ones who will bear the consequences of our deeds, for better and for worse. And therefore, we are the ones who know deep down, more than anyone, what the right thing is that will validate us and make us happy.
