True Forgiveness

„The supernal forgiveness comes from the source of loving-kindness, from the utter greatness, boundless in its breadth, which knows the whole in all its scope and the particular in all its precision.”From Shemonah Kevatzim V, 193

Contemporary moral thinking places the victim, the injured party, at the center, and holds the offender to account for the rest of their life. This is a harsh outlook, but from the standpoint of strict justice it is precise. Precisely for this reason it is fitting that we remember that the forgiveness we ask of our Father in Heaven is no small matter. He sees and knows where we caused harm, how much we sinned, where we erred. And after all of this we ask that He forgive and pardon. When we approach and ask for forgiveness as a child before their parents, the matter is clearer. A father usually pardons his child for their sins, however grave they may be. The supernal perspective, that of the Holy One, is not only that of pain but also that of a king. It can see everything together, grasp a complete picture, see a person along with their sin and the causes of the sin, see in the whites of the eyes the will to regret, the capacity to improve and recover, the progress. This is what leads the Holy One, not only as a Father but also as a King, to pardon and forgive.
