„The thought that happiness depends on something beyond a person's cap…”
„The thought that happiness depends on something beyond a person's capacity, on something outside their being and outside their will, is an abominable thought... Therefore the upright of heart are always joyful.”From Orot HaKodesh III, 105
"If only such-and-such were the case, everything would be good..." "How wonderful it once was when..." So many phrases are cast into the air, giving the sense that the good depends not on us but on another era, other people, another situation. In practice, it is entirely in our hands. It is up to us to decide whether to feel the good showered upon us or to ignore it; it is up to us to choose whether to look at the half-full or the half-empty cup; it is up to us to make beauty the essence of our lives; it is up to us to change hard situations!
